EU foreign ministers on Monday will discuss the UN’s call for a “humanitarian pause” in the Gaza conflict, ahead of a likely debate on the issue between EU leaders later this week.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s chief diplomat, said before Monday’s foreign ministers’ meeting that the group would “obviously” discuss a potential pause.
“I am sure it will be on the table of the leaders at the next meeting,” Borrell said, referring to a meeting of EU leaders starting on Thursday in Luxembourg. “How can we not discuss about it? Certainly, we will.”
Borrell, who will chair the foreign ministers’ meeting, said the pause was needed for “giving back the hostages” held by Hamas.
“The attacks of missiles, of rockets from Hamas throughout Gaza have to stop,” he said.
