Diaspora Expanding Partnerships & Opportunities for a Brighter Future
2023 DIASPORA TRADE & INVESTMENT SUMMIT – Tickets, Fri, Sep 22, 2023 at 9:00 AM | Eventbrite

The 2023 Diaspora Trade & Investment Summit in Atlanta, GA provides participants the platform to do explore and engage with business, political and government leaders for purposes of advancing our common welfare. The world is constantly evolving and providing new opportunities for growth and prosperity to those who seek them. Time is ripe for the Diaspora community to reconstitute itself economically, socially, and politically and to have a voice at the decision table on issues that help us grow as a community. we care about.
Our ecosystem is complex and as fragmented as it might appear, we have the wherewithal to transform the economic landscape of our countries of origin through Capital lows direct investments Real and on projects such as Estate, Ecommerce, Tourism, Public Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Outsourcing, Finance, Healthcare and so many others. To this end, we have established platforms and frameworks that we hope to leverage our synergies and partner with the respective governments, American & African businesses, and other stakeholders to grow our economic standing. The Convention is designed as the Launchpad for a larger economic development framework through collaboration between the Diaspora, business leaders and government officials in the United States and Africa to conduct business.
Our theme this year is “Diaspora Expanding Opportunities &Partnership for a Brighter Future”. We strongly encourage you to use this unique opportunity to create partnerships and initiatives that will advance our common welfare and contribute to the region’s development.
The role of the Diaspora in the Africa’s economic, political, and social development has expanded exponentially over the years as more Africans migrate outside the country. For instance, Kenya’s Diaspora is figuratively referred to as for its “48th County” economic contribution to the country. It is the most affluent as measured by the annual “County” remittances to Kenya. This economic leverage is the income we generate in the host countries and remit to
Kenya which in turn has become a major economic engine that fuels economic growth, in the United States for example, the over 800,000 Kenyans remit an estimated $2.4 Billion annually. Collectively Kenyans in the diaspora remits approximately $5.1 Billion which translates into about 6% of Kenya Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with an annualized economic impact of $25 Billion or 30% of GDP. According to available data from The Central Bank of Kenya, Diaspora remittances have more than quadrupled. over the last ten years from US $ 338 Million (KSH 25 Billion) in 2004 to US $ 4.03 Billion (KSH 500 Billion) in 2022 https://www.centralbank.go.ke/diaspora-remittances/ . This economic impact is expected to grow exponentially over the years. Thus, the Diaspora’s economic impact on the country cannot be overstated and will continue to be a major driver of economic activity for the foreseeable future.
Welcome to the 2023 Diaspora Trade & Investment Summit, an outcome driven platform upon which our collective synergies will be harnessed for the greater good of our common welfare. Your presence here is a great honor to me personally and to our teams that have worked hard over the last several months to plan and make this convention possible. To our sponsors, thank you because we wouldn’t have done it without you; to our speakers and panelists, thanks for putting together such great topics that galvanize our sense of purpose and spirit to serve. To the heroes and heroines whom we’ll recognize at this conference, thank you for your service to our community and the vitality you bring to the Diaspora ecosystem. David Ochwangi, Chair-AKDOI.
The African Diaspora is one of the most vibrant around the world with healthy participation in the economic, social and political spaces in their host countries. Whereas other countries such as Israel, India, Morocco, Nigeria, and Egypt have managed to institutionalize their Diaspora’s participation in their respective native countries’ political and economic infrastructure by establishing platforms upon which capital lows are channeled with pronounced and quantifiable results, Kenya lags behind in setting up the requisite business development initiatives and platforms
upon which her Diaspora can fully optimize their full potential. Consequently, the country has missed out and continues to miss out on a lot of transformative opportunities that its peers have reaped from their Diasporas. This must change. This convention seeks to advance the narrative by opening up new avenues and
platforms upon which the diaspora can channel its ingenuity to further beneath our homeland.
At the Summit, the Association of Kenyan Diaspora Organizations , Inc. ( AKDOI -https://akdoi.org)invites and welcomes you to join our ranks and become members as individuals and as corporate entities so that we can continue to lourish together. As Aristotle once said, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”- simply put our unity and teamwork will see us achieve way more than we would individually, beyond our wildest dreams.
I am an optimist by nature, and I believe most of us are as well. I recognize that we face insurmountable challenges in overcoming cynicism within our ranks and in government institutions but that pales in comparison to the tremendous opportunities that remain untapped. This conference is a perfect conduit to do so and on behalf of the AKDOi team, welcome aboard.
